096 – The Five Pillars of Health with Dr. Ron Ehrlich Part 2

In the first part of my conversation with Dr. Ron Ehrlich we talked about how unhealthy we have become. And he identified some of the main culprits behind those illnesses. He also did a good job of reigning in my frustration at te government authorities who are supposed to be protecting us from those causes.  What it all comes down to according to Dr. Ron is that our health is our own responsibility. Growing frustrated isn’t going to do much to change things.

In this second part he reveals his five pillars of good health and how we can implement them.

Lessons Learned

The Five Pillars

  • Get enough sleep

Sleep is the most important part of the day.  It’s our built-in, non-negotiable life support system.

  • Breathing

There is a difference between breathing and breathing well.  The secret to living a healthy long life is breathing well. Breathe through your nose, breathe slowly and breathe from your diaphragm

  • Nourish

The foundation of a good diet is lots of vegetables.  The beauty of nutrient dense food is that they have been evolving these things we need for millions of years.  Don’t eat too much meat and drink lots of water.

  • Exercise

Less is more.  You don’t have to go on a 10km run.  The ordinary person just needs to get up and move.  Just walking is good enough. If you really want to get into exercise get into functional movements and core strength.  10-15 minutes of high intensity exercise is all you need.

  • Think

The foundation of the other pillars is so important for this one.  With good sleep, diet and exercise you will be able to better control your thought patterns.  Mindfulness and mediation are really powerful tools to take back control of your thoughts.
